Kalam’s Necessary Engagement with Modern Science
By Islam & Science The 24 June 2015 - 00h06
In this paper the necessity and importance of Islam’s serious engagement with Modern Science is explored. The author argues that there are serious issues of contention between Modern Science and Islam, ranging from conceptual bases (‘methodological naturalism’) to the challenging worldview that has emerged from Science (e.g. Evolution and Big-bang/Multiverse Cosmology), and issues of application of science (genetic engineering, beginning and end of life issues, abuse of nature and the environment, etc.). This important paper charts some of the critical questions that need to be grappled with by Muslim theologians and which can no longer be postponed, yet alone ignored.
